Vacancy: Teaching Assistant

  • Grade 4
  • Level 1
  • 25 hours per week, term time only
  • fixed term contract from 25 January 2019 until 31 July 2019 Renewal will be subject to SEN Funding and SEN student numbers
  • Responsible to: Mr Graham Reagan, SENCO

The main purpose of the job

To work under the direction of the teacher to undertake work, care and support programmes, to enable access to learning for students and to assist the teacher in the management of students.

Core Responsibilities, Tasks and Duties

  • To provide direct classroom support for those children who have been identified as having Special Educational Needs.
  • To assist students with various learning strategies and study skills.
  • To improve self-esteem by considering the students’ emotional needs in order to enhance their learning.
  • To assist the subject teacher in identifying and helping any other student/s in class who may be experiencing difficulties with learning.
  • To provide support to subject staff with the design, preparation or selection of alternative learning resources.
  • To provide feedback to subject teachers on students’ progress.
  • To develop students’ ability to learn independently.
  • To encourage students to work alone and in groups as appropriate.
  • To take part in the Statutory Review process involving assessment, target setting and possible strategies.
  • Accompany other staff on school visits and in other activities outside of the classroom with responsibility for specific students or small groups as directed by the teacher.
  • To work with students in developing relevant social skills.
  • To provide information about students to other colleagues.
  • Any other reasonable duties agreed with Head and SENCO.

General Requirements

  • The Teaching Assistant will be expected to familiarise themselves with and follow all school policies and procedures and in particular the following: The School’s Health, Safety and Security Policy, Child Protection Policy, Behaviour Management Policy, Inclusion Policy, Equalities Policy and Data Protection Policy.
  • The Teaching Assistant will be expected to participate as required in the school’s performance management and supervision systems and take part in appropriate training and development activities.
  • The Teaching Assistant will be expected to contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school.
  • Makes appropriate use of ICT and adhere to policies relating to it, within their work in line with the   school’s systems of working.
