All students study Religious Studies (RS) for two hours per week in Key Stage 3 and 4. The RS curriculum offers a wide range of opportunities to develop understanding and investigation of different religious beliefs teachings and practices.
Students are encouraged to express their opinions and to respect the opinions of others. This is central to facilitating stimulating, engaging and inspiring RS lessons. A safe environment is fostered so that students develop their own ideas about religion, community and spirituality. Students are encouraged to express their views in an environment of trust and respect which allows sensitive subject matter such as life after death, why people suffer, does God really care and issues such as divorce and abortion to be discussed in productive and thoughtful ways. The broad curriculum, along with the skill of a very able department, allows us to continue to develop students who are gracious, compassionate, loyal, patient, kind, forgiving and just.
The Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award (YLA) is an important part of our RS curriculum at Key Stage 3 which helps students to put our school values into practice.
