The Language Department at Manor CE Academy is dedicated to developing all students’ linguist abilities as far as possible, as well as encouraging them to consider themselves as citizens of the global community.
The Department consists of a highly motivated team that engages students through a wide range of activities and uses ICT to great effect.
All students in Key Stage 3 study French, with some Gifted and Talented students taking on German as a second language. All students also have the opportunity to take part in taster sessions in other languages such as Spanish, Latin, Swedish and Greek through events, clubs and activities throughout the Key Stage.
Students are also given opportunities to use their language in a real context through visits from French and German speakers. The Department’s commitment to fostering internationalism can also be seen by our links with other schools.
In Years 7 and 8 students follow the online Studio/Stimmt coursebook and cover a number of topics including family, environment, hobbies and school. They have two hours of MFL lessons per week.
At Key Stage 4 the majority of our students continue to study MFL as part of the EBacc. Current Year 11 students follow the AQA exam board course which comprises of 4 terminal exams worth 25% each.
AQA French 8658
AQA German 8668
