Teacher of Science

Main Pay Scale M1 - M6,

Full-time, temporary for 1 year in the first instance

We seek to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and energetic Teacher of Science to join our hardworking and successful department in September 2017.  The ideal candidate will be focused on high quality teaching in science at Key Stage 3 and 4, and a passion for working with young people.  This post would be suitable for newly qualified or more experienced teachers. 

The Science Department

The science department consists of ten teaching staff and two full time technicians.  Teaching takes place in one of seven fully resourced and dedicated laboratories and the department is fortunate to have access to a wide range of practical equipment and technology.  At KS3 students study the Exploring Science scheme which leads on to the Edexcel GCSE at KS4.  Students have an option to study either Combined Science or Triple Science.  The department have a strong commitment to extra-curricular activities with regular trips, competitions and science clubs.

Teacher of Geography

Main Pay Scale M1 - M6

Part-time (0.6FTE), temporary for 1 year in the first instance

We seek to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and energetic Teacher of Geography to join our hardworking and successful department in September 2017.  The ideal candidate will be focused on high quality teaching in geography at Key Stage 3 and 4, and a passion for working with young people.  This post would be suitable for newly qualified or more experienced teachers. 

The Geography Department

There are two other full time teachers in the Geography department; a subject lead and a head of Year 7 and transition.

We currently have three Geography classrooms equipped with whiteboards and projectors.  All pupils across the Academy also have Ipads and also have access to an electronic version of the new OUP GCSE text book.

Key stage 3 Geography runs throughout years 7 and 8. We cover a wide range of topics throughout both human and physical Geography, designed to support the new GCSE specification. 

For key stage 4 we cover the new AQA specification from years 9-11. All pupils are required to take Geography or History at GCSE. Each year we undertake 3 field trips; a Maybeck river study and a York urban transect as compulsory day trips and we also run an optional Italy trip.

Examination Results Summary (2015-16)

Last Year in Geography 77% of students achieved an A*-C grade and 36% achieved an A/ A*.

Midday Supervisor

Grade 3, Level 1

Term-time only

 5 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 12 noon /12.15 - 1.00/1.15pm)

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic person who has a good rapport with young people and enjoys working with them.   The successful applicant will have a calm and positive manner and will assist in promoting good behaviour.  The role involves maintaining a clean dining area during the lunch-time period and working alongside the other member of the team.

Volunteers required at The Hive

We are looking for volunteers to support events being held in The Hive at Manor CE Academy, York.

The Hive is a fabulous creative media centre based behind the academy building. Facilities include a purpose-built 209 seat studio theatre.

To enable our theatre to be run efficiently and successfully we are looking for volunteers for the following roles:

  • Front of House
  • Usher
  • Café/Bar Assistant

You may have relevant experience or are just keen to volunteer in a theatre environment to learn new skills, meet new people and have fun! Full training and support willl be provided.

Hours will be mainly on evenings and weekends and will be co-ordinated depending on demand and availability.
