Modern Foreign Languages

The Language Department at Manor CE Academy is dedicated to developing all students' linguist abilities as far as possible, as well as encouraging them to consider themselves as citizens of the global community.

The Department consists of a highly motivated team that engages students through a wide range of activities and uses ICT to great effect.

All students in Key Stage 3 study either French or German but also have the opportunity to take part in taster sessions in other languages such as Spanish, Latin, Swedish and Greek through events and activities such as Arts Week.

Students are also given opportunities to use their language in a real context through visits from French and German speakers. The Department’s commitment to fostering internationalism can also be seen by our trips to France and Germany and email links with other schools.

In Years 7 and 8 students follow the Echo/Expo coursebook and cover a number of topics including family, environment, hobbies and school. They have two hours of MFL lessons per week.

Taking French or German is compulsory at Key Stage 4 where year on year our results are well above the national average.

At Key Stage 4 students follow the AQA exam board course which comprises of 60% on-going controlled assessment in writing (30%) and speaking (30%) and two final exams in listening and reading worth 20% each.

GCSE courses:
AQA French 4655
AQA German 4665
