The Physical Education Department at Manor CE Academy aims to develop and improve students’ health and wellbeing through a varied programme of sports and activities. Students are introduced to a range of basic and advanced skills covering the full content of PE curriculum. This includes:
Outwitting an opponent – activities such as games
Accurate replication – activities such as gymnastics
Exploring and communicating ideas, concepts and emotions – activities such as exercise to music and dance
Performing at a maximum level – activities using competition and personal bests such as athletics
Identifying and problem solving – activities such as orienteering and outdoor and adventurous tasks
Exercising safely and effectively – activities that focus on fitness and wellbeing such as circuit training.
All students have access to two hours of high quality PE during the full five years at Manor CE Academy. At Key Stage 4 students can opt for a GCSE qualification in Physical Education.
The department also provides a variety of opportunities for extra curricular involvement through a range of teams and practices. This programme is seasonal and runs alongside the York and District competitions across the city. The academy also encourages students to compete at a inter school and inter house level as well as a ‘sport for all’ ethos at all team practices.
The faculty is supported by six members of staff who can provide expertise across a range of sports. It runs a variety of trips and visits throughout the year aimed at rewarding students for their commitment to academy teams and providing opportunities for students to witness professional sports people, teams and events.
