MANOR CE ACADEMY IS PART OF

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Learning Support at Manor CE Academy is situated right at the heart of the school and has a quiet courtyard specialist rooms.

The department works alongside each subject department and pastoral teams and sees close links with parents as being vital to student success. Student support is tailored as far as possible to individual need and is usually a combination of in-class support and access to appropriate intervention groups.

Students are supported in class or in small intervention groups. At key stage 3 some SEND students are taught Maths and English in small groups by specialist teachers with additional “Top Up” lessons in Communications, Life Skills and Literacy. In addition to this many students enjoy bespoke SPL support as part of the curriculum and in special groups before lessons. At Key stage 4 some SEND students follow a bespoke curriculum that offer breadth and support in courses that suit a variety of ability sets.

We are keen for all SEND students to have the same wide range of exciting and enriching opportunities and experiences as every other student. In addition though some SEND students have enjoyed taking part in the RHS gardening competition at Harlow Carr and winning lots the Disport Olympics and work experience through the COPE course.

In September 2013 we welcomed the Satellite provision into our academy. The satellite is a York initiative where a group of students from Applefields special school receive their education at Manor alongside our existing students. This continues to be an exciting partnership and we feel very privileged to be part of this venture. This year there is a new provision called the Orchard working specifically with a small group of students.

Courses undertaken at Key Stage 4 may include:

AQA Entry Level Certificates an Maths and English
GCSE Maths and English Language
ASDAN Certificate of Personalised Education
ASDAN Award of Personalised Education
ASDAN Wider Key Skills
Edexcel BTEC in Home Cooking Skills
Functional Skills ICT
GCSE History
