This is an exciting year for us with some amazing opportunities.
Several Year 10 students from Manor and Vale of York have been successful in applying to go on a trip to Australia run by Everything is Possible, a not-for-profit organisation for young people. In November, we will be joining groups from Australia, Brazil and Sweden who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and working together on a joint project in Melbourne. We believe that non-formal learning through volunteering and experiencing new cultures is an enormously powerful way of helping people to improve themselves and I am very excited for our students involved in this trip. I am hoping they will bring back some valuable lessons to share with their peers.
Of course that’s not the only travel opportunity this year; our Geographers are heading off to Italy and our Caterers are taking part in Manor’s first trip to Barcelona, and we also have the regular Romania and Malawi excursions! Lots to look forward to.
We are well into upper school now and I frequently get comments from staff about how mature and conscientious the majority of you are. This is wonderful to hear. You must make full use of extra-curricular clubs, learning opportunities, and really focus on working to your full potential. Throughout the year you will be given more guidance on revision and exam techniques to help you cope with the added pressures. All teachers and pastoral staff are happy to help if you feel worried or if you a struggling with a particular aspect of the course – please ask.
I hope you really enjoy Year 10 and make it your best year at Manor yet!
