Your final Year at Manor has begun! Ahead of you is hard work and challenges, but also opportunities for you to shine, achieve, and to leave Manor being the best possible people you can be. Not only with outstanding results, but also as young people who have grown together and established life-long friendships, who are happy serve others, and as people ready to live life to the full in whatever adventures come next for you.
You will discover your teachers are expecting more from you this year and you need to take a much greater responsibility for your own learning. But you are a creative, ambitious and talented group of young people, who are committed to working hard. Remember that staff are here to help you, so make the most of their experience and support. I am looking forward to not only the year ahead, but at watching you flourish and achieve all that you can.
With a new year also comes new possibilities, so don’t forget that there’s more to school than lessons! I hope that all of you will find an extracurricular club to suit you. We have some wonderful musicians, actors, cooks, artists and sportsmen/women in the year and it’s important that you have some fun and find new friendships through the opportunities on offer. You also have dress up day, final assembly, year books, leavers hoodies, prom to plan and look forward to, and not to forget GCSE results, when you get to see all your hard work come to fruition. Make the most of your last year and enjoy the journey ahead.
Anyone who comes into my classroom will see a poster that has a famous Mark Twain quote on it:
‘Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.’
Make sure that you make the most of Year 11, so that you can look back and be proud and happy with all that you have achieved; both academically, and personally.
