iPads for learning

1:1 Technology: iPads for learning

A few years ago, after thorough discussion, trials and research, Manor CE Academy took a major step forward which, thanks to the support of parents, saw all our Year 7, 8 and 9 students with individual iPads. Each new student will start their time at Manor with this innovative learning device.

We believe that these devices make a major contribution to the learning opportunities and experiences of our young people. We are seeing greater engagement, creativity and enthusiasm for learning, independence and imaginative assessment responses. All of this, we believe, will contribute to higher levels of attainment, quicker progress and therefore better success in the long term.

Students retain their iPads throughout the day using them in class to support their learning. In lessons this could be; learning based around specific educational application (app), it might be some incidental research, an initial creative activity, a recording of class activity or teacher input, maybe some collaborative work or a whole class participation activity. At some time students will upload, via their iPad, work or products to their teacher who will assess and give feedback on screen. However, as powerful and as exciting these devices are it is important to remember that they will not replace teachers and excellent teaching; which is still core to all learning and lessons.
